City of Águas de Lindóia

The recognition of the quality of the natural springs in the city of Águas de Lindóia has extended far beyond the borders of the State of São Paulo and Brazil. Today, Águas de Lindóia is internationally recognized for the exceptional quality of its natural mineral water sources.

The renowned Thermas de Lindóia was once considered one of the finest thermal resorts in the world and undoubtedly the most prestigious destination in southeastern Brazil, welcoming celebrities, artists, and political leaders.

Madame Curie's Visit

The work of Dr. Tozzi attracted the attention of Marie Curie, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, who was conducting research on radioactivity in France. During her visit to Brazil in 1928, Madame Curie toured the Thermas de Lindóia.

Radioactivity was a central topic of discussion because, years later, studies revealed that the mineral waters of Águas de Lindóia reached 3,179 Mache units on the radioactivity scale, compared to 185 Mache units from the famous springs of Jáchymov in the Czech Republic and 155 Mache units from the springs of Bad Gastein in Austria.

The natural radioactivity found in these waters has historically been associated with therapeutic wellness benefits, and Águas de Lindóia became internationally recognized for the unique characteristics of its mineral waters.

Águas de Lindóia and the Apollo 11 Mission

The Municipal Spa of Águas de Lindóia preserves a remarkable historical document: Invoice No. 20,218, issued on April 2, 1969, approximately three and a half months before mankind's first landing on the Moon aboard Apollo 11.

According to this document, at NASA's request, 100 dozen 500ml bottles of mineral water from Águas de Lindóia were shipped to Cape Kennedy. The reasons reported for NASA's selection included the water's low acidity and its rapid absorption by the human body.
